Walter L. Baker
82, of West Alexandria, Ohio, and formerly lived in Danville, Indiana, is no longer with us as of Friday, April 3, 2026.
He was born June 23, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana to his parents.
Walter was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Fields.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Baker; son, Walter L. Baker III; daughter, Kaye (Jeff) Heagy; grandson, Nathan Heagy; and many nieces and nephews.
From a young age, Walter possessed an extraordinary ability to see beauty and potential where others might not. As an autobody repairman, his work went far beyond simply fixing vehicles, he restored them with purpose and pride, breathing new life into what was worn and forgotten. For Walter, every dented fender or faded finish was an opportunity to create something meaningful again. His talents were generously shared, as he spent countless hours helping friends and family restore their own vehicles, always offering his time, skill, and encouragement without hesitation.
As a teenager, Walter purchased a 1954 Corvette, a decision that would become one of the great joys of his life. He meticulously cared for the car over the decades, treating it not just as a vehicle, but as a cherished companion and reflection of his dedication. His efforts were recognized at numerous car shows, where his Corvette proudly earned many ribbons, a tribute to his patience, precision, and love for the craft.
Walter’s creativity extended well beyond the garage. He was also an accomplished painter, filling his home with artwork that reflected his thoughtful nature and artistic eye. Each piece told a story, just as every car he restored carried a piece of his heart.
In addition to his many talents, Walter had a love for aviation. Though he never obtained his pilot’s license, his passion for flying remained an important part of his life, symbolizing his desire to explore, learn, and reach new heights.
Above all, Walter was a man of deep faith. He faithfully served as an Elder for 9 years in many congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was Baptized on July 4, 1974, offering guidance, wisdom, and compassion to those around him. His devotion to his spiritual community was unwavering, and he found great purpose in supporting and uplifting others.
