Virginia R. Griever

age 87, of Dayton, passed away peacefully Friday, October 2, 2026 surrounded by her family.

She was born March 8, 1939 in Westport, Indiana to the late Leonard B. and Stella Mae (Curtis) Pruitt.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Allen and Robert Griever, and her siblings, Jesse, Junior, JL, James, and Josephine.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda and Virgie; sister, Flo; granddaughters, Kimberly, Heather, and Jennifer; great grandchildren, Carmen, Jonathan, Jordan, Xander, Juliette, and Joy; and many more family and friends.

If it could be planted, Virginia could grow it. Her gardens were her happy place, bursting with flowers in every color and rows of vegetables she was always proud to share. She had a gift for coaxing life from the soil, and she never met a seed, cutting, or struggling houseplant she wasn't willing to take on.

For 52 years, Virginia was a treasured member of Revive Church, where her faith and her kindness were a steady presence. Her church family was truly an extension of her own, and she was grateful for every one of those years among them.

Christmas was Virginia's favorite time of year, and her home showed it. Every holiday season she transformed her house into a wonderland of lights, garland, and decorations, putting the same care into it that she gave her garden. Anyone who stepped through her door felt the warmth of the season, and she loved nothing more than filling her home with the people she loved.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 9 from 10AM to 12PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria. The funeral service will begin at 12PM with Pastors Nathan and Paul Hundley officiating. Virginia will be laid to rest at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery.
