Terry Cabaniss
age 76, peacefully passed away March 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, employer, and an all-around good guy. He lived life with a compassionate, fun-loving heart, and was always willing to pitch in to help or serve. His friendly charm was present in every part of his life. You would like him…. And he liked you.
Terry was born August 31, 1948 to the late Everett and Maxine Cabaniss. He was raised on a farm in West Alexandria, Ohio, and graduated from Twin Valley South High School in 1966. He proudly served in the U.S. Army focusing on helicopter maintenance while stateside and during a tour in Vietnam. While stationed in Yakima, Washington, he met and married the love of his life, Betty (Thompson) Cabaniss. In their 53 years of marriage, they established their home in Eaton, Ohio raising a wonderful family of 3 children, Paul Cabaniss, Phillip (Megan) Cabaniss, and Rachel (Jim) Focht; grandchildren, Darian (Justin) Miner, Ashlynn McKee, Jordynn Jewett, Audrey and Claire Cabaniss, and Bostynn and Edison Focht; and great-grandchildren, Zander and Oliver Miner. Terry was devoted to his family, sharing with them life-enriching travel adventures, church/community activities and volunteering wherever help was needed. One of his proudest accomplishments and favorite story to share was about delivering his granddaughter, Jordynn at home and being awarded a pink stork pin from the Eaton EMS!
Terry had a number of occupational hats. He started house painting as a kid, learning his future trade under his Grandfather Walter’s painting business. He owned and operated a painting/remodeling store, and drove a school bus. Through the years, Terry became a skilled, dependable, highly-regarded painter/owner of Cabaniss Custom Painting, and seasonal work of lawn-rolling and snow-removal.
Terry is survived by his loving family, sisters, Connie (Mike) Elliott, and Carol (Tom) Hake, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Terry was a wonderful, talented man that lived a good life; He brought joy and friendship to others and almost always had a cheerful smile on his face. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Greenbriar and Bella Care Hospice for their exceptional care.
