Robert L. Peters
79, of Hagerstown, Indiana, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 13, 2025.
He was born April 28, 1945, in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Cecil E. and Hazel L. (Rowland) Peters.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his infant son, David Jessie Peters; and brothers, Ronnie Lee Peters and Charles M. Peters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Melinda Peters; children, Melissa Peters, Theresa LaBoyteaux, Susan Peters, and Ronnie Peters; several grandchildren; and sisters, Cecilia Peters, Leona Parks, and Linda Bennett.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He carried the values of honor, loyalty, and service throughout his life, never forgetting the brotherhood and sacrifice that marked his time in uniform. His honorable discharge marked the end of his military career, but not the end of his journey.
After returning home, Robert took to the open road as a truck driver, crisscrossing the vast American landscape. He found a quiet kind of freedom in the miles and the solitude, taking pride in his work and the vital role he played in keeping the country moving.
But it was when the wheels stopped turning that Robert truly came to life in his own way. A homebody at heart, he cherished the peace and simplicity of country living. He found joy in working the soil of his vegetable garden, savoring the fruits of his labor. He could often be found wandering hedgerows for blackberries and red raspberries, or slipping into the woods to hunt for mushrooms, his keen eyes always alert for nature’s hidden treasures. On quiet afternoons, he was happiest with a fishing rod in hand at the edge of the farm pond, where time seemed to slow down just for him.
