Lula Carol (Fugate) Combs

76, of Ten Mile, Tennessee, formerly of West Alexandria, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

She was born November 29, 1949, in Hazard, Kentucky, to the late Gabriel Fugate and Edith (Deaton) Hensley.

Carol was a 1968 graduate of Northmont High School and spent the majority of her career working in Human Resources for Baxter Healthcare Corporation and Akey, Inc. She was an avid gardener who loved spending time outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed working alongside her husband, Greg, on their many projects together, including building several homes in West Alexandria.

Above all, Carol’s greatest joy was her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life, and she devoted her retirement years to being present in their lives and sharing in the moments, both big and small, that mattered most to them.

Carol was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Gregory Lee Combs; her father, Gabriel Fugate; her mother, Edith (Deaton) Hensley; her brothers, Tom Fugate, Joe Fugate, Jesse Fugate, and Jeff Fugate; and her grandson, Killian.

She is survived by her son, Zane Stewart; daughter, Kelly Stewart Nace (Scott); stepson, Gregory Combs; stepdaughter, Emily Combs; and her beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Gabriel, Tony, Izzy, and Ava.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Preble Memory Gardens Funeral Center in West Alexandria. The funeral service will be private, and Carol will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Greg, at Sugar Grove Cemetery in West Alexandria.
