Larry Mikesell
85, of Eaton, passed away, Friday, March 20, 2026.
He was born August 20, 1940, in Clayton, to the late Stanley P. and Dorothy L. (Dearth) Mikesell.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Mikesell, son, Harland Mikesell; and sister-in-law, Norma Mikesell.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy J. (Harrod) Mikesell; sons, Mark Mikesell and Larry Mikesell (family friend, Kim Hayslett); grandchildren, Todd (Lauren) Mikesell, Scott (Karli) Mikesell, Josh Mikesell, Shannon (Brendan) Avery, and Courtney Mikesell; great grandchildren, Braylon Mikesell, Madi Mikesell, Luke Mikesell, Avanell Mikesell, Elliana Avery, and Jack Avery; step grandchildren, Nick (Alesa) Lunsford, Mark Lunsford and Stacy (Allie) Lunsford; step great-grandchildren, Eleanor Lunsford and Penny Lunsford; siblings, Richard Mikesell, Robert (Sandy) Mikesell, Ron Mikesell, Steve (Cheryl) Mikesell, Jerry (Nancy) Mikesell, and Joyce Mikesell Ross, and; and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Mikesell.
After 32 years of faithful service, Larry retired from Appleton Paper, where his strong work ethic and steady presence earned the respect of coworkers and friends alike. He took great pride in a job well done and carried that same sense of commitment into every part of his life.
Larry also honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that reflected his sense of duty and love for his country.
At home, Larry found joy in the details that others might overlook. He was an avid model train enthusiast, carefully building and collecting HO scale trains. Whether arranging tracks or fine-tuning the smallest features, he found peace and satisfaction in bringing his miniature worlds to life.
Some of Larry’s happiest moments were spent traveling and camping with his beloved wife, Dorothy. Together, they created lasting memories at places they held dear, including Myrtle Beach, Sault Ste. Marie, and the Soo Locks of Michigan. These trips were filled with laughter, relaxation, and the kind of companionship that only grows stronger with time.
Above all else, Larry was a devoted family man. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he gave his whole heart to those he loved. He took great care of his family, always putting their needs first and offering quiet strength, guidance, and unwavering support. His presence was a steady and comforting force, and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 24 from 10:30AM to 12:00PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria. A graveside service will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria, with Pastor Rich Westerwelle officiating.
