John Knaff

72, of West Alexandria, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026.

He was born August 7, 1953, in Dayton, to the late William K. and Nancy B. (Smith) Knaff.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a special cousin, Michael Davis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Diane (Samson) Knaff; daughters, Lyndsey Knaff and Audrey Knaff; grandchildren, Avelynn and Quinn; grand-dog, Aidy; siblings, Eddie Knaff, Audrey Knaff, Sharon Curd, Karen Malave, and Terry Knaff; special cousin, Phil Hall; and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews whom he considered like grandchildren, cousins, and other family members who meant so much to him.

A dedicated tradesman, John retired from Otis Elevator after an impressive 37 years of service. His commitment and work ethic were a testament to his character, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and fellow elevator men.

Beyond his professional endeavors, John was distinguished by his love for nature and all its pursuits. He was an avid outdoorsman, whose joy could be found in the rhythmic cast of a fishing line across shimmering local ponds and the vast expanses of Lake Erie or the exhilarating chase of waterfowl from Tennessee to Montana. Nature was his refuge, and he reveled in every opportunity to immerse himself in its splendor.

Sports also played an integral role in John’s life. He enthusiastically participated in various sports, not just as a player but as a mentor as well; he coached his daughters' teams, instilling in them the same love for athletics that he held dear. An unwavering supporter of the Cleveland Browns, the Guardians (whom he affectionately still called the Indians), and The Ohio State University Buckeyes, John never missed an opportunity to cheer for his teams, come rain or shine, victory or defeat. His passion for sports was infectious, fostering a camaraderie with family, friends, and fellow fans alike.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 14 from 10AM to 12PM at PREBLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL CENTER, West Alexandria. The funeral service for John will be held privately, and he will be laid to rest at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery.
