Esther H. Davis

Esther H. Davis, 79, of New Lebanon, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning September 19, 2016. Born December 20, 1936 in Hamilton, OH, she was a daughter of the late Ben & Emma (Klapper) Kockentiet. Esther retired in June of 1995 as an elementary school teacher after 36 years, 31 of which were at New Lebanon Public Schools. Her favorite things were singing and teaching children to read. She was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death on April 21, 2003 by beloved husband Clyde A. Davis, whom she married August 16, 1958. Survived by daughters Lisa Eckley of New Lebanon and Lori Stombaugh & husband Todd of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren Lauren Adams & husband Gene of Vandalia, OH, Jacob Eckley of Dover, PA, Abbey Stombaugh, Drew Stombaugh & wife Melissa Machado, and Casey Stombaugh all of Ft. Wayne: great grandson Alex;sister Mary Tackett of LaMesa, CA; much loved son Ed Eckley of New Lebanon; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Esther's great nephew, Rev. J. R. Virgin, will officiate. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
